Panthers climb to second at Chick-fil-A Invitational
ROME, Ga. - The Birmingham-Southern women's golf team posted the best second-round team score today and took second-place at the 2008 Chick-fil-A Invitational tournament hosted by Berry College.
BSC shot a 310 on the day, two strokes ahead of round 1 leader Lindsey Wilson College, but they finished eight strokes behind for both days. The Panthers were able to pass Berry and take the second-place finish. Berry finished 20 strokes behind BSC. Oglethorpe University had a player withdraw during the second round, making their short-handed team unable to post a second-round score and were disqualified.
In the individual table, Kelley Burgess posted the best score for BSC with a fourth-place overall finish. Kelley finished 10 strokes over par (154) seven strokes behind the leader. Jordan Hardy finished one stroke behind her teammate with a 155, good for 6th-place. (Burgess tied with Lindsey Wilson's Jessica Smith for fourth.)
The Panthers will wrap-up their 2008-09 schedule next Monday and Tuesday at the Rhodes College Invitational. The event will be held at the Tunica National Course in Tunica, Mississippi just south of Memphis.
