BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—With a two-day total of 577, a full 11 strokes ahead of the second-place team, Lee University won the 2011 'Southern Shootout, hosted by Birmingham-Southern at Highland Park Golf Course.
Lee's Courtney Shelton was also the individual champion after winning a play-off today against Columbus State's Kimesha Anthony and Nikki Crowley and Shorter's Lisa Persson. All four players shot 140 total, with Shelton shooting a tournament-low 67 today in round two.
Columbus State placed second as a team with a total of 588, followed by 13-time defending national champion Methodist University with 596.
The Panthers placed ninth in the 16-team field with a two-round score of 645, led by sophomore Ellen Chun who shot 154 (73 and 81) to place 20th overall.
BSC is back in action beginning this Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Rhodes Collegiate Classic in Tunica, Miss.
