JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.—The 14th-ranked Birmingham-Southern women finished 11th and the men placed 20th at the Jekyll Island Invitational this weekend at Jekyll Island Golf Course.
The Panther women shot a three-round total of 999, just one stroke behind Rhodes and 11 strokes behind No. 20 Southwestern. Junior Michelle Morris was BSC's top finisher and placed 35th overall with a three-round score of 247, followed by sophomore Rachelle Struthers with 249, senior Jennifer Commander with 252, sophomore Ellen Chun with 253, and sophomore Kaleigh Toole with 254.
No. 1 Methodist won the tournament with a score of 942, followed by Coastal Georgia with 957, and No. 4 Centre with 958. In all, 10 of the 21 teams were nationally ranked.
On the men's side, BSC recorded a team score of 917, just one stroke back from No. 10 Huntingdon and three strokes back from No. 8 Christopher Newport. Sophomore Michael Wallace led the Panthers with a three-round score of 224, putting him in 43rd place. Senior Thomas Ray and sophomore Landon Michelson both shot 229, followed by sophomore Daniel Morris with 237 and senior Matt Kelly with 242.
No. 3 Methodist also won the men's tournament with a team score of 858, followed by No. 7 Oglethorpe with 870 and No. 18 Emory with 872. Sixteen of the 30 teams were nationally-ranked.
