MADISON, Ill.—The No. 16 Birmingham-Southern women's golf team finished eighth with a team score of 648 this weekend at the Washington University Spring Invitational at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.
No. 2 Washington University and NAIA No. 4 ranked Williams Woods University each shot a team score of 611, but William Woods was declared the team champion due to a tiebreaker. NCAA Division II No. 19 ranked Drury University (304-317, 617), Wittenberg University (315-307, 622) and NCAA Division III No. 9 ranked St. Olaf College (334-211, 645) and NCAA Division III No. 10 ranked Illinois Wesleyan University (325-320, 645) rounded out the top five. The Panthers finished just three strokes behind Illinois Wesleyan and one stroke behind North Central College.
Sophomore Rachelle Struthers was the top finisher for BSC, placing 16th overall after shooting two rounds of 79 for a total of 158. Senior Jennifer Commander and junior Michelle Morris both shot 163 total as the Panthers' second-place finishers, followed by sophomore Kaleigh Toole with 166 and sophomore Ellen Chun with 172.
BSC is next in action in two weeks at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Normal, Ill.
