BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–The 18th-ranked Birmingham-Southern women's golf team has been chosen as an at-large selection to play in the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship.
The Panthers placed second two weekends ago in the 2013 Southern Athletic Association Championship, seven strokes behind No. 8 Centre, who also received an at-large bid. Since the SAA is a new conference, winners of the championships do not yet receive automatic bids to the national tournaments. Eleven conferences have automatic qualifications, while BSC was one of 10 teams to be selected on an at-large basis.
BSC and Centre were the only two SAA teams to make the field, while Sewanee's Emily Javadi, who won the SAA individual crown, was selected to play as an individual.
The championships will be conducted May 14-17 at the Baytowne Golf Course at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla. No. 1 Methodist University, who has won 13 consecutive national titles, will serve as host. The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. The tournament consists of 72 holes of play over four days of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total score.
