No. 12 Women's Golf in sixth after first round of 'Southern Shootout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—After the first round of the 2013 'Southern Shootout at Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham, Ala., the 12th-ranked Birmingham-Southern women's golf team is in sixth place with a team score of 322.

Lee University shot 299 today to lead the field; the Lady Flames have won the Shootout the last two years. No. 15 (NAIA) University of the Cumberlands is in second place with 300, and Rhodes College is in third with 302. No. 14 (NCAA DIII) Wittenberg is in fourth with 312, and Oglethorpe is fifth with 317, five strokes ahead of the Panthers.

Lee's Courtney Shelton shot 69 today and is the overall individual leader, followed by Sewanee's Emily Javadi with 71, Cumberland's Chelsea Branscum with 72, and BSC sophomore Sarah Dolmovich and Oglethorpe's Elizabeth Kim, both with 73.

Dolmovich leads BSC and is tied for fourth overall after carding a 73 today, followed by senior Kaleigh Toole with 78 at 19th, senior Ellen Chun with 82, and sophomore Wallis Fairvalley with 89.

Tomorrow's final round will tee off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
