BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Both the team and individual champions were determined in a play-off today at the 2013 'Southern Shootout at Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham, Ala. Rhodes won the team title, while Sewanee's Emily Javadi was the individual medalist.
Rhodes and No. 15 (NAIA) University of the Cumberlands both carded a two-round score of 603 to tie for first, and the Lynx won in a five-player play-off on the 10th hole. Javadi and Birmingham-Southern's sophomore Sarah Dolmovich tied for the individual top spot with totals of 147 each, and Javadi won the play-off for the tournament crown.
Lee University, who won the 2011 and 2012 'Southern Shootout, placed third with 611, followed by Oglethorpe with 621, No. 14 (NCAA DIII) Wittenberg with 634, and No. 12 Birmingham-Southern with 640 in sixth place.
Rounding out the top five individuals were Oglethorpe's Elizabeth Kim at third with 148, and a three-way tie at fourth between Lee's Courtney Shelton, Rhodes' Meg Healy, and Cumberland's Chelsea Branscum, all with 149.
For BSC, Dolmovich shot 73 yesterday and 74 today, followed by senior Kaleigh Toole with 158 (78-80), senior Ellen Chun with 163 (82-81), and sophomore Wallis Fairvalley with 172 (89-83). Freshman Alison Justus played as an individual for BSC and carded 191 (92-99).
The Panthers will travel to Sandestin, Fla., next weekend for the Golfweek Division III Fall Preview, Friday, Oct. 11, through Sunday, Oct. 13, at Baytowne Golf Club.
