MONTGOMERY, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's golf team shot a 711 team score over Sunday and Monday to open the 2014-15 season at the MCC Women's Collegiate, hosted by Huntingdon at Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, Ala.
The Panthers improved 11 shots from the first-day total to finish seventh for the tournament with rounds of 361 and 350.
The Panthers started and ended the day in seventh place. Huntingdon College, the tournament host, won the event with a 624 total, while runner-up Methodist University shot 636.
Freshman Meg Callahan earned All-Tournament honors after finishing in a tie for fifth place with a 157 (80-77) score.
"I am very proud of the team after today's round," BSC Head Coach Jason DeJiacomo said. "They managed their way around the golf course better, and made fewer mistakes on the final round. They stayed focused and didn't get caught up thinking about the holes they had already played. Our freshmen really showed that they're here to play! It's a good start to a new season."
BSC freshman Drew McDonagh tied for 28th, carding rounds of 91-85 for a total of 176. Junior Wallis Fairvalley finished t-36th with a 182 total (88-94), and sophomore Allison Justus finished t-43 with a total score of 196 (102-94).
Sewanee's Emily Javadi earned medalist honors with a 73-75—148 tally.
The Panthers are back in action Sept. 27-29 at the SAA Preview in Murphreesboro, Tenn.
