Lee University wins 2014 'Southern Shootout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Lee University women's golf team won the 2014 'Southern Shootout on Monday, hosted by Birmingham-Southern at Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham, Ala.

The Flames' performance was highlighted by tournament champion Madison Alexander, who shot 69 in Sunday's round followed by a tournament-low 65 today. Lee posted a team score of 571 (295,276), followed by University of Cumberlands at second with 582 (289,293) and Jackson State University in third with 652 (321,331).

Centenary's Jamie Wright was the second place finisher with 136 (68-68), followed by Cumberlands' Candice Lindeque at third with 141 (70,71), Lee's Caroline Moore at fourth with 142 (73,69), and Cumberlands' Bri-Ann Tokariwski at fifth with 145 (72,73).

The host Panthers finished seventh with a combined score of 705 (350,355), led by freshman Meg Callahan and junior Wallis Fairvalley who both shot 82-81 for a total of 163 to tie for 20th.

BSC will travel to Sandestin, Fla., next weekend, along with the men's team, for the Golfweek D3 Preview, Oct. 12-14.
