Men's Golf fifth, Women sixth after first round of SAA Championship

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—After the first round of the 2016 Southern Athletic Association Golf Championship, the Birmingham-Southern men are in fifth place and the women in sixth at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The men carded a 297 today, led by junior Tanner Dixon who shot 73 and is tied for ninth. Junior Patrick Newsom and freshman Colin MacLane were one stroke behind with 74, followed by senior Spencer Honey and sophomore Steven LaMay with 76 and junior Torben Krieger with 79.

Berry leads the men's team standings with 287, followed by Oglethorpe with 289 and Rhodes with 290. OU's Kyle Shealy, Berry's Joel Maire, and Centre's Andrew Horn lead the individual board after all three shot 69 today.

On the women's side, the Panthers shot 330, led by freshman Sarah Moon with 78, tying her for 11th on the player leaderboard. Sophomore Drew McDonogh was second for BSC with 82, followed by freshman Ali Porter with 84, freshman April Godsey with 86, and senior Wallis Fairvalley with 89.

Sewanee leads on the women's side with 303, followed by Rhodes with 309 and Berry with 313. Berry's Sydney Weaver leads all players after carding 73 today.

Action continues tomorrow and concludes Sunday.
