REDLANDS, Calif. - The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team lost tonight to University of Redlands, 14-11. The Panthers even their record at 2-2 on the season.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick lead, scoring the first four goals of the game (two from #Lyndsay Griffin#, one from #Katie Gregory#, and a free position shot from #Ashley Johnson#), but Redlands evened it up with four straight goals of its own. Griffin found the net with one second left in the half, though, to put BSC up 5-4 at halftime.
In the second half, Redlands exploded with five straight goals to go up 9-5. Johnson and #Alexis Sweda# each scored to cut the lead to 9-7, but UR scored again to go up 10-7. Griffin scored again on a free position shot to cut it to 10-8, but Redlands responded with three straight goals, increasing the advantage to 13-8. The Panthers were able to get three more goals in the last five minutes - two from Johnson and one from Gregory - cutting the lead to 13-11, but Redlands was able to score once more to go up 14-11 for the win.
Goalkeeper #Katie Bates# played all 60 minutes in the net and picked up six saves.
The Panthers are back in action on Thursday, taking on Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif., at 7 p.m. PT/9 p.m. CT.
