BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomores Lyndsay Griffin and Chelsea Van Voorhis scored four goals apiece, and Griffin recorded three assists, to help the Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team to a 19-3 victory against the University of Dallas, Friday evening at Panther Stadium. BSC moves to 7-2 on the season with the win.
The Panthers scored the first seven goals of the game in the first seven minutes before Dallas got on the board at the 10:20 mark. BSC scored twice more, going up 9-1, before the Crusaders found the net again at the 7:15 mark. The Panthers scored two more, and Dallas scored the last goal of the half to give BSC an 11-3 lead at halftime.
Griffin scored all four of her goals, and Van Voorhis scored three of her four in the first half alone.
The Panthers shut out Dallas in the second half, scoring eight more goals for the 19-3 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Bates played all 60 minutes and recorded two saves, while Dallas goalie Anna Massey made 11 saves.
Griffin led the Panthers with 12 shots, four goals, and three assists, and Van Voorhis led with four goals, four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Sophomore Bryttany Uy and freshman Sarah Minick also recorded three goals apiece, freshman Stephanie Gore had two, and sophomore Alexis Sweda, freshman Anna Barry, and freshman Rebecca Klementz also scored a goal each.
For Dallas, Christine McFarland and Mary Salotto were the only players who recorded shots for Dallas, with McFarland taking four and Salotto taking three. McFarland and Becky Williams led with four ground balls each, and McFarland also led with five draw controls.
BSC is back in action again at home this Sunday, March 28, taking on Carthage College at 2 p.m. in Panther Stadium.
