BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Led by junior Alexis Sweda with eight goals, the Birmingham-Southern women's
lacrosse team shut out LaGrange College, 20-0, Friday afternoon in Panther Stadium. BSC moves to 5-4 with the win, while LaGrange falls to 1-9.
BSC led 12-0 at the half after scoring 11 goals in the first 20 minutes of the period. Overall BSC out-shot LaGrange 51-8, led in ground balls 45-25, led draw controls 14-8, and was 13-14 on clears. LaGrange had 32 turnovers to BSC's 17.
Sweda scored eight goals and recorded an assist with a game-high 10 shots. Juniors Lyndsay Griffin and Chelsea Van Voorhis had three goals apiece, senior Ashley Johnson and sophomore Rebecca Klementz had two each, and freshmen Madeline Golden and Hailey Massa had one each. Johnson also led with six assists. Golden led with nine ground balls, followed by sophomore Stephanie Gore with eight. Gore also led with five caused turnovers and four draw controls.
Kelsey Griffin led LaGrange with five shots, and she and Angie Forero led with five ground balls each. Kristin Bird had three draw controls.
Junior Katie Bates played the entire game in goal for BSC, recording seven saves. For LaGrange, Chelsea Totaro had 22 saves.
BSC is back in action at home again tomorrow, taking on conference rival Millsaps at 1 p.m. in Panther Stadium.
