DANVILLE, Ky.—Led by junior Lyndsay Griffin with six goals, the Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team rebounded with an 18-11 victory today against Fontbonne, hosted by Centre College in Danville, Ky. The Panthers move to 7-5 on the season.
Fontbonne out-scored BSC 3-1 in the first four minutes of the game, but the Panthers went on a scoring streak after that, recording eight straight goals to go up 9-3 with 15:26 left in the first half. Fontbonne scored twice after that to cut it to 9-5, but the Panthers scored three straight to go up 12-5. The Griffins were able to score one more goal at the end of the half, and BSC had a 12-6 lead at halftime.
The Panthers came out in the second half and scored twice in the first three minutes to go up 14-6, followed by three straight Fontbonne goals to cut it to 14-9. The teams traded goals to bring the score to 15-10 before BSC scored three to go up 18-10. The Griffins were able to score once more before the end of the game.
Griffin led with six goals on eight shots, and freshman Hailey Massa led with three ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Katie Bates played all 60 minutes and recorded five saves.
BSC is at home again next weekend, taking on Sewanee, Friday at 5 p.m., and Berry College, Saturday at 2 p.m., both in Panther Stadium.
