BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team lost at home to Centre College today, 18-6 in Panther Stadium.
The Panthers fall to 6-3 in their SCAC opener, snapping a five-game win streak, while the Colonels move to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the SCAC.
BSC scored the first goal of the game but Centre answered with four straight to go up 4-1 by the 17:50 mark. The Colonels led 8-4 at the half.
Centre came out in the second half and scored seven straight goals to go up 15-4 with 14:21 remaining in the game. BSC would score twice more, while the Colonels scored three times for a final of 18-6.
Senior Chelsea Van Voorhis led the Panthers with four of their six goals, and sophomore Madeline Golden scored the other two. Junior Stephanie Gore led on defense with nine ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Bates recorded 15 saves.
Centre out-shot BSC 48-15 and won 17 of the game's 26 draw controls.
The Panthers are on the road for the next month, beginning with a game against Colorado College next Saturday, March 31, in Colorado Springs at 1 p.m. CT.
