Panthers fall to Sewanee on the road, 19-8

SEWANEE, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team lost on the road to Sewanee, Friday, 19-8.

The Panthers fall to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in the SCAC; Sewanee moves to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Sewanee scored the first goal of the game and would never trail, although BSC cut it to 3-2 at the 17:58 mark on a goal from senior Chelsea Van Voorhis. After that, the Tigers scored four straight to lead 7-2 at the half, then four more to open the second half and go up 11-2.

The teams traded goals six times after that point, playing to a 16-8 score with 7:57 left before Sewanee scored the last three goals of the game.

Van Voorhis led the Panthers with four goals, while sophomore Madeline Golden added three. Sophomore Rebecca Klementz also had a goal. Senior goalkeeper Katie Bates led with five ground balls and also recorded 16 saves.

The Panthers return home this Sunday to face Dallas at noon in Panther Stadium. It will be Senior Day for Bates, Van Voorhis, Cynthia Andrews, and Alexis Sweda.
