Women's Lacrosse opens season with 17-11 home win over Tennessee Wesleyan

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Led by junior Logan Harris with five goals, the Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team opened the 2013 season on Saturday with a 17-11 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan in Panther Stadium.

The Bulldogs opened the game with a 2-0 lead, and the teams played to a 4-4 tie by the 10:58 mark, after which the Panthers scored four straight to go up 8-4. BSC led 9-6 at the half.

The Panthers scored six straight to open the second half and go up 15-6, after which TWC scored five straight to cut it to 15-11 by the 7:40 mark. BSC wrapped up the scoring with two more goals in the final minutes for the 17-11 victory.

Harris led all players with five goals, while junior Madeline Golden and freshman Taylor Bates scored four apiece, and senior Stephanie Gore recorded three. Golden led with three assists, and Gore led with 10 ground balls and 11 of the team's 16 draw controls.

Chelsea Walsh and Kelsey Crow led the Bulldogs with four goals apiece.

Senior Rachael Bragg played all 60 minutes in goal for the Panthers, recording three saves. Paige Falkowskie started for TWC and made 12 saves; Nicolette Dungee played the final 14 minutes and recorded three saves.

BSC is on the road next Saturday, Feb. 23, traveling to face Berry College at 2 p.m. Eastern in Rome, Ga.
