BSC Women’s Lacrosse Held Off By Berry, 14-13

ROME, Ga. – Birmingham-Southern (1-1; 0-1 SAA) scored two late goals in the final 1:27 but Berry College (2-0; 1-0 SAA) held on to earn a 14-13 Southern Athletic Association win on Saturday.

The Panthers scored two goals in a span of 32 seconds to trail 14-13 late in the second half. Stephanie Gore scored with 1:27 left and Madeline Golden followed with a goal at the 58 second mark.  

Berry held a 6-5 lead with 13:30 left in the first half before BSC scored the final five goals to lead 10-6 at halftime. Amanda Amerson tied the game with 13:30 to go and got three goals from Golden and one apiece from Stephanie Gore and Logan Harris to close the half.

The Vikings scored the first four goals of the second half to tie the game 10-10 at the 13:55 mark on a goal by Rachel Aikin.

Alex Smith gave the Panthers an 11-10 lead 45 seconds later before Berry scored the next four goals to forge ahead to a 14-11 lead with 1:48 to go. Kristan Dziurzynksi, who led Berry with seven goals and assist, scored two goals during the 4-0 run.

Golden finished the day with four goals and one assists followed by Gore with three goals. Harris added two goals with an assist. Amanda Amerson had two goals and Alex Smith had one assist.

Birmingham-Southern and Berry had 16 ground balls apiece. Stephanie Gore and Lexi Smith led BSC with four ground balls while Harris was 3-for-3 in faceoffs.

BSC returns home for an SAA contest against Millsaps College on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Panther Stadium.
