WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Clermont Mudd Scrips (5-5) used a big second half to stretch a two-goal lead into a 17-4 win over Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse (3-6) on Tuesday at the Spring Fling Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
Amanda Amerson gave BSC a 1-0 lead just under three minutes into the first half before Rachel Darby tied the game just over a minute later for CMS.
Amerson tallied her second goal of day to give the Panthers a 2-1 at the 25:18 mark, a lead that held up until 14:11 left in the first half when Molly O'Donnell tied the contest.
Rachal Darby scored next three goals to give over a five minute span to give CMS a 5-2 lead while Taylor Bates scored a goal with 1:39 remaining to cut the deficit to 5-3 at halftime.
Claremont scored 12 straight goals in the second half to take a 17-3 lead before Bates scored BSC's final goal of the game with 44 seconds left.
BSC and Claremont tied on ground balls with 17 apiece. Stephanie Gore led BSC with five ground balls followed by Rachel Bragg with three. Gore also led BSC with three caused turnovers.
Bragg had four saves in goal for the Panthers while CMS's Kate Anello also had four saves.
Darby led CMS with seven goals followed by Madi Shove with four.
Claremont outshot BSC 22-15 but only held an 8-6 edge in the first half and was 3-for-4 on free position shots.
