BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team opened the 2015 season at home on Saturday, losing to Millsaps 20-11 on Battle Field at Panther Stadium.
The Majors moved to 2-0, while the Panthers fell to 0-1.
The teams traded goals throughout the first 20 minutes of the first half, playing to a 4-4 tie by the 11:43 mark, but the Majors ended the half on a 9-1 run to lead 12-5 at halftime.
The second half was more even, although Millsaps still out-scored BSC 8-6 for a final of 20-11.
Junior Amanda Amerson led BSC with five goals, while junior Taylor Bates and freshman Ashley Shepherd had three apiece. Amerson and freshman Natalie Daniel led with six ground balls, and Daniel also had six draw controls.
Kendall Fann led the Majors with six goals.
The Panthers are on the road for their next three games, traveling to face Centre next Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. ET in Danville, Ky.
