Women's Lacrosse downs Oglethorpe, 11-8, for first win of 2015

ATLANTA, Ga.—Led by freshman Ashley Shepherd's five goals, the Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season Friday evening, defeating Oglethorpe 11-8 in Atlanta.

The Panthers moved to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Stormy Petrels fell to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the SAA.

The teams traded goals over the first 20 minutes of the game, and OU led 3-2 with 10:32 remaining. BSC exploded for five straight goals to end the half, however, putting the Panthers up 7-3 at halftime.

The Petrels opened the second half with two goals, cutting it to 7-5, but BSC also responded with two goals to pull ahead 9-5. Each team scored twice after that, playing to a final score of 11-8.

Shepherd led all players with her five goals, and freshman Natalie Daniel added three goals. Junior Amanda Amerson scored twice, and junior Shana O'Brien scored once.

BSC stays on the road this weekend to face Centre College on Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT.
