BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—After playing nearly 35 minutes, Birmingham-Southern's women's lacrosse game against Huntingdon has been canceled due to lightning and severe weather.
After a lightning delay early in the game, the teams played through heavy downpours until the 25:23 mark of the second half, when another lightning delay sent everyone indoors at 7:21 p.m. with BSC leading 6-3. After over an hour of waiting, the game was called. None of the statistics count as the game was not at the official mark yet (80 percent/48 minutes).
The Panthers will wrap up their regular season home schedule next week, hosting LaGrange on Tuesday, April 12, at 5 p.m. BSC then plays its regular season finale on April 16, taking on Sewanee in Sewanee, Tenn., before post-season play begins April 22. The Panthers currently lead the SAA standings; the top two teams receive a first-round bye in the conference tournament and will play in the semifinals on Sunday, April 24.
