BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 4 seed Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team eliminated the fifth seed Hendrix College from the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Tournament on Friday night, defeating the Warriors 19-14.
Playing with just 11 players, the Panthers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first half before finally allowing a Hendrix goal with 14:26 to go in the first half.
BSC took an 11-6 lead into the break and scored eight more goals in the final 30 minutes to beat the Warriors and advance to the semifinal round of the SAA tournament.
Birmingham-Southern was led on offense by senior Ashley Shepherd (Dandridge, Tenn./Jefferson County HS) and sophomore Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School), who each scored seven goals. With her second goal, Cox reached the 100-career goal mark, the second Panther to reach the milestone this season. Cox's career goal total now stands at 105.
Freshman Mari Clair Harmon (Houston, Texas/Northland Christian HS) got her third career start in goal and recorded 10 saves.
Birmingham-Southern will travel to face top seed Rhodes College in the conference semifinal round on Sunday, April 22.
