DALLAS – The Birmingham-Southern Women’s Soccer team played well coming off two weeks rest, as they defeated the University of Dallas 5-0 this afternoon in their final non-conference game before starting their SCAC schedule on Sunday.
Coach Benji Watson was, obviously, pleased with his team’s effort. “After two weeks off our girls were itching to play against some outside competition, we took advantage of our opportunities and did what we had to do to come into conference-play strong on Sunday.”
The Panthers scored early-and-often this afternoon. The first goal came in the tenth-minute from Junior Forward, Serena Murphy off an assist from Freshman Mid-fielder Linda Amaya. Linda got one of her own in the 35th-minute, but the day truly belonged to Freshman Forward Emmy Hollis. She netted two goals as the first half expired to give the Panthers a 4-0 advantage at the break. “Hollis iced the game for us with her two at the end of the first half; it was really good to see a freshman come off the bench and get results like that,” said Walton. The final goal of the match came in the 59th-minute from Junior Forward, Lindsay Miller off an assist from Erin Carter. Junior Keeper, Ruth Hanks got credit for the shut-out, playing the full 90 minutes.
The Panthers will open up their SCAC schedule on Sunday at Austin College. Game-time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. following the men’s game at noon.
