MEMPHIS – The Birmingham-Southern (10-6-2) women's soccer team traveled to Memphis this afternoon for a noon match with Rhodes College (13-4-1), defeating the Lynx 1-0 in the Bluff City.
Alicia Plotky scored the game’s only goal in the 37th minute off a connecting pass from Claire Hooten. Coach Benji Walton collected his 50th career win with the victory. “I am very proud of how our girls played today. [Rhodes] has a share of the conference championship this season, so to come in here and beat them on their own field is a big accomplishment for us. We are playing our best soccer here at the end of the year, it’s just a shame that we aren’t yet eligible for post-season play.”
Ruth Hanks played all 90 minutes of the shut-out, leading a solid BSC defense. The Lynx had only four shots on the day to the Panthers’ 10. ‘Southern controlled the pace of the match with a solid team effort.
The Panthers will play their final game of the 2008 season on Sunday at Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
