BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s soccer team got their first win of the season at home Friday night against Division I foe Alabama State, 9-0. The Hornets played the entire game with just nine players and the Panthers were able to capitalize, as all nine goals were scored by a different Panther.
The result of the game was never in question. Linda Amaya scored in the 10th minute and Erin Carter scored just two minutes later and the Panthers were off and running. Alicia Plotky, Lydia Rice, Lauren Cage, Serena Murphy, Lindsay Miller, Claire Hooten, and Caroline Crawford would each add goals of their own in the match.
The Panthers had complete control of both ends of the pitch, as the Hornets were only able to get three shots off the entire game (and only one of those on-goal). BSC, by contrast, had 46 shots (26 on-goal) in the contest. All three BSC keepers saw action in this one, but the play of Alabama State’s Chelsea Nash was outstanding. She played all 90 minutes in goal for the Hornets and rarely had a moment’s rest, recording 17 saves on the night.
The win was BSC’s first on the young season and they will look to keep those wins coming this Sunday as they host another Division I school, Georgia State at 1:00 from BSC Soccer Park.
