BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Division I Georgia State Panthers on Sunday at BSC Soccer Park.
Southern kept the match in a scoreless tie well into the second half of play, but in the end the Panthers of GSU proved too much for the ladies in gold. Said coach Walton after the match, “We played 90 of the best minutes of soccer I’ve seen at BSC this afternoon against very good Division I competition, I am very proud of the effort we displayed this afternoon.”
The first goal came in the 72nd minute after GSU’s Kay Harbrueger beat her defenders and took Amber Hernandez for what turned out to be the game winner. State outshot BSC 27 shots to 8 on the day. The loss drops BSC to 1-2-1 on the season, while Georgia State improves to 4-0 overall.
The Panthers will travel to North Carolina next weekend to face Methodist University on Saturday and Greensboro College on Sunday. Game time is at 1:00 CST both days.
