Women’s Soccer shuts out North Georgia, 3-0, in preseason exhibition
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s soccer team blanked North Georgia College, 3-0, in a preseason exhibition match, Friday evening at BSC Soccer Park.
The teams played three 30-minute periods in the game, and BSC scored a single goal in each period.
The first goal came at the 23:30 mark, scored by junior Lindsay Miller and assisted by junior Erin Carter, and the second was in the 51st minute, in the second period, scored by freshman Alicia Plotky and assisted by junior Lydia Rice. BSC went up 3-0 at the 66-minute mark for its final goal of the game when freshman Sara Menton stole the ball and scored, unassisted.
The Panthers played all three of their goalkeepers in the game, one per period, with junior Ruth Hanks starting. She was replaced by freshman Amber Hernandez in the second period, who picked up a save, and freshman Jillian English also grabbed a save in the third period.
For the Saints, Kirsten Ross played all 90 minutes in the net and made one save.
BSC officially opens its season next weekend at the Rhodes College Tournament in Memphis, Tenn., taking on UT-Dallas, Saturday, Aug. 30, at 12 p.m., and Texas Lutheran, Sunday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m.
