BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's soccer teams are at home this weekend, hosting Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rivals Trinity University, Friday, and Southwestern University, Sunday. Friday's doubleheader, in which the women play first, kicks off at 6 p.m., and Sunday's doubleheader, with the men playing first, begins at 11 a.m.
The Trinity women's team is currently ranked sixth in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and is undefeated at 7-0 on the season, while the men's team is ranked 12th with a record of 7-1-1. For Southwestern, the men are 5-4 on the season, while the women are 7-2.
The Panther men currently stand at 8-2 on the season, having most recently lost to Oglethorpe, 2-0, and defeated Sewanee, 6-3, both on the road. Sophomore #Tyler Evans# leads BSC as well as the conference with 12 goals and four assists for 28 points, while freshman #Nicholas Reitmeier# leads the SCAC with seven assists. Evans is also tied for first in the conference with four game-winning goals. Junior #Tony Crocker# has also recorded five goals and four assists for 14 points, and sophomore #Garner Shivers# has posted six goals and one assist for 13 points.
Freshman #Charlie Boles# and junior #Shachar Hovan# have split time in BSC's goal. Hovan owns a 0.79 goals against average, ranking him fourth in the SCAC, and a 2-1 record, while Boles' GAA is 1.13 and his record is 3-1.
On the women's side, BSC is 6-4 on the season and has won its last four matches, most recently road wins against Sewanee and Oglethorpe. Sophomore #Alicia Plotky# leads the team and the SCAC with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points, followed by sophomore #Linda Amaya# with six goals and five assists for 17 points, ranking her tied for fourth in the conference. Sophomore #Amber Hernandez# owns a 4-3 record in goal for the Panthers, and is ranked fourth in the SCAC with a 0.62 GAA.
