BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The BSC women's soccer team dropped the final match of the 2009 Birmingham-Southern Soccer Classic today, 1-0 to Berry College.
Berry got on the board in the 32nd-minute when Kristen Brooks got a rebounded point-blank shot at #Amber Hernandez# in front of the goal. The Panthers were out-shot 18-8 on the day with Berry's keeper earning just two saves.
Hernandez played well in goal for BSC, stopping 13 goals in the effort with just the single goal allowed in 90 minutes.
Coach Walton was positive after the match: “This weekend was a really good test for our team. We played two very good sides and hung right in and gave us a chance to win each game, we just came up short on the finishing end. We are a young side, and we are learning a ton with each game. I am proud of the way the girls hung in. If we can find our stride I really like our chances the rest of the way. It’s always tough to lose hard fought games, but I am proud of the way these young players are growing up.”
Sewanee took the tournament championship earlier in the day, as they defeated Mississippi College 2-0 in the 1:00 game.
The Panthers will return to BSC Soccer Park on Friday when they host the Emory University Eagles at 7:00 p.m.
