Women's soccer shuts down the Lynx 4-0
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The BSC women's soccer team got a big win tonight over the defending SCAC Champion Rhodes College Lynx 4-0 at BSC Soccer Park in the first conference game of the season.
The Panthers got on the board early and never looked back. #Sara Menton# struck first in the fourth minute of the match off a #Linda Amaya# cross. The rest of the first half was offensively quiet, but the BSC defense was stout, keeping the Lynx off the board to hold on to the narrow lead.
The next goal was not scored until the 61st-minute, when #Alicia Plotky# netted a solo, giving BSC the 2-0 cushion. From there the flood gates opened up. The Panthers collected two more goals to firmly put away the SCAC Champs. #Serena Murphy# connected with Plotky in the 76th-minute and Amaya got a goal of her own, this time from #Lydia Rice#, to bring the tally to the final of 4-0 Panthers.
Senior co-captain Serena Murphy had this to say about her team's effort tonight: "We have really begun to connect with the ball, finding each other and connecting on our passes. Our teamwork allows us to really capitalize on our opportunities and come out on top. We are really pleased to get the win over such a good team."
The Panthers will return to the pitch on Sunday in the second game of another SCAC double header, this time with the Hendrix College Warriors. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. following the conclusion of the men's game.
