Men's and Women's Soccer both fall to Southwestern on the road

GEORGETOWN, Texas—Both the Birmingham-Southern men's and women's soccer teams were shut out on the road today by Southwestern University, as the men lost 3-0 and the women lost 1-0.
The Panthers men fall to 3-5-3 overall and 0-3-2 in the SCAC, while the women fall to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.
In the men's game, Southwestern out-shot BSC, 19-7. Sophomore Kyle Sherrin led the Panthers with three shots. Senior Shachar Hovan and freshman Alex Levinson split time in goal for BSC, combining for three saves.
The Panther women out-shot the Pirates, 13-9, led by junior Alicia Plotky with three shots. Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Papas played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves.
"It was an extremely exciting game, very hard fought on both sides of the ball," women's head coach Benji Walton said of his team's game. "Tonight we came up a bit short, but I am very proud of our team effort. If we keep playing this way we're going to be a tough team to deal with the rest of the year."
Both teams are in action on Sunday against Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The Trinity women are ranked 10th in the nation, while the men are ranked seventh.
