BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Sophomore Bailey Kimbell scored a goal with 2:33 left in overtime to help Birmingham-Southern College claim a 2-1 win over Austin College, Sunday at BSC Soccer Park.
The Panthers improved to 5-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Austin College fell to 5-4 and 1-1.
Kimbell's opportunity came from the middle of the 18 after senior Alicia Plotky hit the right post off a cross from senior Linda Amaya for the game-winner.
BSC took a 1-0 lead after a scoreless first half when Plotky scored after a header by Amaya hit the cross bar in the 64th minute.
Ali Ryan provided the equalizer in the 84th minute off a free kick into the 18 from Kelsey D'Amore to tie the score at 1-1.
Sophomore starting goalkeeper Richelle Byrd was credited with two saves, while Austin College starter Maya Warnock made four stops.
The Panthers held 17-7 advantage in total shots and 6-3 in shots on goal.
BSC returns to action next weekend, stepping out of conference to face Agnes Scott on the road in Decatur, Ga., Friday, Oct. 7, followed by a conference match against Hendrix in Conway, Ark., Sunday, Oct. 9.
