RALEIGH, N.C.—A goal from Meredith College late in the second half broke a 1-1 tie to give the Avenging Angels a 2-1 win against the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team Friday evening in Raleigh, N.C. in the Meredith National Invitational Classic.
The Panthers fall to 1-1-1 on the young season, while Meredith remains undefeated at 3-0.
Meredith's Jesse Davis scored the first goal of the game in the 27th minute, and BSC tied it up 10 minutes later on a goal by freshman Heidrun Gudmundsdottir, her first of the season, assisted by freshman Jessie Sperry.
The score remained tied until the 83rd minute, when Meredith's Danielle Lee scored off an assist from Kimberly Williams. The Panthers were unable to find the equalizer and took the 2-1 loss.
Shots were even at eight for each team, but the Panthers had seven shots on goal to Meredith's two.
The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, facing No. 3 Johns Hopkins at noon Eastern.
