Panthers shut out LaGrange at home, 6-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team shut out LaGrange College at home, 6-0, Wednesday evening at BSC Soccer Park.

The BSC Panthers move to 6-5-1, while LaGrange falls to 8-7.

Freshman Avery Newcomb scored the first two goals, both assisted by freshman Jessie Sperry, within the first 12 minutes of play. Junior Amanda Babbin then scored twice after that, in the 24th (assisted by senior Devon Weldon) and 32nd minutes to put BSC up 4-0 before halftime.

Junior Bailey Kimbell put BSC up 5-0 in the 56th minute, assisted by Weldon, and freshman Heidrun Gudmundsdottir wrapped up the scoring in the 78th minute assisted by freshman Ashley Prouty.

BSC dominated play for most of the game, out-shooting LaGrange 27-4, 14-2 on-goal. Babbin led with three shots, all on-goal.

Junior goalkeeper Richelle Byrd started and played the first half, and freshman Katie Williams came in for the second half, recording two saves.

The Panthers return to Southern Athletic Association action this Saturday, Oct. 13, facing Hendrix at 4 p.m. at BSC Soccer Park.
