MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Four different Panthers scored goals as the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team defeated Huntingdon, 4-1, Monday evening in Montgomery.
BSC moves to 8-5-1 with its third-straight victory, while the Hawks fall to 2-12. The Panthers have out-scored their opponents 16-1 over the last three games.
Senior Devon Weldon scored the first goal of the game, assisted by junior Katie Hutchins, in the 13th minute, and junior Amanda Babbin put BSC up 2-0 in the 35th minute off an assist from junior Ashley Bradshaw. Huntingdon cut it to 2-1 five minutes later on a goal by Josie Byard, and the Panthers kept the lead into halftime.
Senior Melissa Sweeney put the Panthers up 3-1, assisted by junior M'Kayl Lewis, in the 59th minute, and freshman Sammy Manzo scored the final goal of the game in the 66th minute from a double assist by freshman Avery Newcomb and Weldon.
BSC out-shot Huntingdon 25-4, led by Babbin, Sweeney, and junior Bailey Kimbell with three shots apiece. Junior goalkeeper Richelle Byrd started and played the first half for the Panthers, recording one save. Freshman Katie Williams played the entire second half.
BSC returns home and resumes Southern Athletic Association play on Friday, facing Berry at 5 p.m.
