Women's Soccer falls to Piedmont on the road, 2-1

DEMOREST, Ga.—After scoring the first goal of the game, the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team gave up two goals to Piedmont to lose, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Walker Athletic Complex in Demorest, Ga.

BSC falls to 1-3, while Piedmont moves to 4-1.

Senior Kelly Craft scored the first goal of the game in the ninth minute, and the Panthers held the 1-0 lead for less than four minutes before the Lions tied it up in the 13th minute. The tie stood through the rest of the half and almost 20 minutes into the second half before Piedmont scored the game-winner in the 64th minute. The Panthers had several looks at the goal in the remainder of the game, but were unable to connect, and Piedmont came away with the 2-1 win.

Sophomore Avery Newcomb led BSC with two of its 10 shots; Piedmont had 12 shots, led by Laura Goodwin with five. Senior BSC goalkeeper Richelle Byrd played all 90 minutes and recorded one save.

The Panthers are on the road again this Tuesday, Sept. 17, facing Covenant in Lookout Mountain, Ga., before returning home on Friday, Sept. 20, to take on No. 10 Emory at 7 p.m.
