Women's Soccer shuts out Hendrix on the road

CONWAY, Ark.—On the strength of a strong defensive showing, the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team tallied a 1-0 conference road victory over Hendrix College, Saturday evening in Conway, Ark.

BSC moves to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Athletic Association; Hendrix falls to 6-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the SAA.

The Panthers earned the shutout, senior goalkeeper Richelle Byrd's third complete game shutout of the season, using a defensive effort that allowed only a single shot on the afternoon.

BSC's offense came out firing in the first half taking 11 shots, four of which were on-goal, before lighting up the scoreboard with goal from freshman Nicole Newton off an assist from senior Kelly Craft in the 41st minute. The Panther defense would make the goal hold up to earn the victory.

Senior Bailey Kimbell led the team with a game-high five shots. On the evening, the Panthers logged 28 shots, compared to one for Hendrix, and took five corner kicks against one for Hendrix.

BSC stays on the road next weekend. The Panthers will face Oglethorpe on Friday, Oct. 25, at 1:30 p.m. Eastern in Atlanta, and Berry on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. Eastern in Rome, Ga. A tilt against Millsaps in Jackson, Miss., on Nov. 2 will be the season finale for BSC before the Panthers host the conference tournament on Preston Goldfarb Field, Nov. 8-10.
