GREENCASTLE, Ind.—The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team lost to No. 20 Illinois Wesleyan, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at the DePauw Classic in Greencastle, Ind.
The Panthers fall to 1-1 after shutting out the host Tigers yesterday evening, 4-0.
The first half was scoreless before a flurry of scoring came in the second half, beginning with Titan goals in the 68th and 70th minutes. BSC found the back of the net eight minutes later on a goal from sophomore Nicole Newton off an assist from junior Jessie Sperry. The Titans scored again less than four minutes later to conclude the game's scoring and secure a 3-1 victory.
The Titans controlled the offensive pace of the game, out-shooting BSC 19-3, including 7-3 on-goal, and IWU had 11 corner kicks to BSC's 2.
The Panthers open their home slate next weekend, hosting the BSC Invitational. BSC will take on Louisiana College on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 2:30 p.m., and Maryville College on Sunday, Sept. 7, at noon at Preston Goldfarb Field.
