DECATUR, Ga.—The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team extended its win streak to five games on Sunday with a 3-0 shutout of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga.
The Panthers now stand at 6-1 on the season, while the Scotties fell to 1-4. It was the fifth straight win and third straight shutout for BSC.
Junior Jessie Sperry put the Panthers up 1-0 early, scoring in the seventh minute of the game. Junior Avery Newcomb, assisted by sophomore Bethany Kuerten, increased the lead to 2-0 in the 37th minute. Junior Sammy Manzo scored the final goal of the game in the opening minute of the second half to wrap up the scoring.
BSC out-shot ASC 27-5, 13-3 on-goal, with sophomore goalkeeper Ansley Tomlin recording all three saves. Scotties keeper Ivy Macintyre made 10 saves for ASC.
The Panthers return home this Tuesday, Sept. 23, to host Covenant College at 7 p.m. on Preston Goldfarb Field at Berylson Park.
