Seven Panthers earn SAA women's soccer post-season honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Seven members of the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team were named to the All-Southern Athletic Association Team, the league office announced today.

In exclusive voting by the conference's head coaches, senior midfielder Sammy Manzo (Madison, Ala.) was voted to the First Team, while junior defender Bethany Kuerten (Auburn, Ala.) was named Second-Team All-SAA.

Earning Honorable Mention honors were senior defender Mattie Gereben (Alpharetta, Ga.), senior defender Ashley Prouty (Mobile, Ala.), senior midfielder Avery Newcomb (Madison, Ala.), junior forward Nicole Newton (Baton Rouge, La.), and senior forward Jessie Sperry (Powder Springs, Ga.).

BSC finished fifth in the SAA this year, going 8-8 overall and 3-4 against league opponents. The Panthers dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Berry in the opening round of the SAA Championship this past Saturday.

Centre's Destinie Graves was voted 2015 Offensive Player of the Year after earning 2014 Newcomer of the Year accolades, and her teammate Tori Dillard won her second straight Defensive Player of the Year honor. Sewanee's Tyler Edell was selected as Newcomer of the Year, and Sewanee Head Coach Patrick Johnston was voted Coach of the Year by his peers. Centre and Sewanee shared the regular season crown this season.
