Panthers Pick up Third Shutout in 3-0 Win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team allowed just one shot on goal from Oglethorpe University Friday night en route to its 3-0 win in Southern Athletic Association play.  The shutout was BSC's third of the year.  They improved to 6-9 overall, 2-3 SAA with the win.


The Panthers opened scoring in the 38th minute.  Megan Moser (Mandeville, La./St. Scholastica Catholic HS) took Nicole Newton's (Baton Rouge, La./Episcopal HS) cross on the left end line to the back of the net.


BSC led 1-0 heading into the break, outshooting the Stormy Petrels 8-2. 


The Panthers pushed the lead to two off a set piece.  Jenny Kastner (Hamilton, Ala./Hamilton HS) headed in a corner kick from Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS) in the 58th minute.


Kastner picked up her second goal of the night on another cross from Andrews.  She headed in the final goal from the right side of the box to the leftside netting.


Libby Groark (Huntsville, Ala./Saint John Paul II Catholic HS) got the start in goal.  She finished with BSC's only save. Oglethorpe (1-9, 0-5 SAA) finished with just one shot on goal.


The Panthers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 16 in a doubleheader with the men against Berry College.  The men kickoff at noon with the women following at 2:30 p.m.  Fans can arrive before the women's game to hear country music star Lee Greenwood sing the National Anthem.
