BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team saw four Panthers named to Southern Athletic Association All-Conference teams Tuesday, headlined by senior Bethany Kuerten (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS) and sophomore Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS), who earned second-team honors.
"I am very proud of Nicole, Bethany, Taylor and Megan," said Head Coach David Di Piazza. "These four young ladies have made Birmingham-Southern women's soccer very proud. I am so happy to see that their hard work was recognized by coaches in our conference."
This is Kuerten's third all-conference nod. She started all 18 matches for the Panthers and played 1,648 of the teams 1,690 minutes. Kuerten anchored the defense that recorded five shutouts and held opponents to one goal or less eight times during the year.
Andrews had a breakout season on the pitch. Starting in all 17 matches she appeared in, she led the team in shots, goals, assists, and points. Her .452 shot-on-goal percentage was the best of all players with more than 30 shots. Andrews also scored two game winning goals, the first of which was a long shot from the top of the box in overtime to lift the Panthers over Hendrix.
Senior Nicole Newton (Baton Rouge, La./Episcopal HS) and sophomore Megan Moser (Mandeville, La./St. Scholastica Catholic HS) were named honorable mention. The pair combined for three goals and four assists and appeared in all 18 matches. Newton has earned all-conference honors all four years of her career. She played 1,336 minutes this season. Moser spent over 1,500 minutes on the pitch.
