BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Six different Panthers scored in a 12-0 home rout of the Talladega Tornadoes on Friday night.
A first half hat trick by junior forward Taylor Andrews propelled Birmingham-Southern (3-1) to a 5-0 lead at the break. Andrews' goals came in the third, fifth and 12th minutes, respectively. Sophomore forward Rachael Motamed, off an assist from Eva Byrum, and sophomore defender Nicole Malegni, off Nicole Bernal's assist, netted the other two goals in the fourth and fifth and 21st minutes. Malegni's goal was the first of her career.
BSC did not let up in the second half, scoring seven more goals before the end of the match. Freshman midfielder Abby Kay Choate scored back-to-back goals in the 48th and 51st minutes to start the half. Teammates Bailey Gardner and Kayla Auger responded with two goals of their own.
Andrews capped the scoring with her fourth goal in the 82nd minute, giving the Panthers the final 12-0 lead and the win. Freshman goalkeeper Blakley Jones collected the win.
The Panthers outshot the Tornadoes 41-2 with 24 of the shots on goal.
After a heartbreaking double overtime loss to open the season, BSC has rebounded well, winning each of its last three matches by an average of six goals.
Birmingham-Southern's next match will be Saturday, Sept. 9 on the road at Huntingdon. The Panthers will return home for the following match against Belhaven on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
