MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team fell to the Rhodes Lynx 2-1 in a Southern Athletic Association matchup on Saturday afternoon, dropping the Panthers to 5-3-1 overall.
The Panthers second-half equalizer was not enough as the Lynx scored a late goal in the final 10 minutes to go up a goal and drop BSC to 0-2 in conference play.
Rhodes opened up the scoring in the 32nd minute and would take the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, sophomore forward Sydney Barrow (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) brought the score level with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Senior Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS) assisted on the play which tied the game up 1-1.
In the 83rd minute, Rhodes re-took the lead with a goal by Rachel Giampapa. The Panthers were unable to find another opportunity in the remaining seven minutes and dropped the match 2-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) recorded a career-high 20 saves in the loss.
Birmingham-Southern will look to rebound in its next match at Wesleyan (Ga.) on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
