BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team defeated Millsaps College 1-0 on Saturday night, improving to 7-5-3 overall and 1-4-2 in the Southern Athletic Association.
Sophomore Sydney Barrow (Hoover, Ala./Indian Springs HS) scored the game-winner in the 87th minute to give the Panthers their first conference win of the year in the regular-season finale.
Barrow's goal, assisted by Amber Thompson (Waxhaw, N.C./Cuthbertson HS), was her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Blakley Jones (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Holy Spirit Catholic HS) finished the game with eight saves.
BSC outshot the Majors 17-15 and had 11 shots on goal to Millsaps's eight.
Saturday was also homecoming and Senior Day for the Panthers. Before the match, BSC honored the senior members of the squad which included managers Emma Holland and Julia Giggie, student assistant Mary Caroline Newman, forward Taylor Andrews (Watkinsville, Ga./Oconee County HS), defender McKenna Boyd (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County HS), goalkeeper Katherine Kozera (Rome, Ga./Rome HS), and midfielder Megan Moser (Mandeville, La./St. Scholastica Academy).
Birmingham-Southern will enter the SAA tournament as the No. 6 seed and will travel to Berry College for the opening round on Saturday, Oct. 27.
