Panther Tennis teams end 2009 season ranked regionally and nationally

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 2009 Birmingham-Southern men's and women's tennis teams may not be eligible for postseason competition this year, but they were still able to make waves in both the regional and national rankings, released earlier this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

On the men's side, BSC went 12-4 and was ranked 13th in the Atlantic South Region. Junior #Michael Locandro# was also ranked 12th in the regional singles rankings after going 12-3 this season. Although they were not ranked, other notable performances in 2009 were from freshman #John Zukley#, who put together an impressive 11-3 record, and Locandro and junior #John Crawford Freeman#, who went 10-4 in doubles play.

The Panther women end the season ranked 27th in the nation and tied for seventh in the region (with Rhodes College) by the ITA after going 12-2 in 2009. Senior #Kathryn Carroll# is tied for 11th in the region in singles play, while she and fellow senior #Lauren Russell# tied for 12th in the doubles rankings. Carroll was 7-3 this past season, and she and Russell went 9-4 at the top doubles spot. Senior #Kate Lambert# and #Janie Asseff# were also impressive in doubles, going 14-1, and sophomore #Brittany Cooper# was 10-3 in singles, but they were not ranked.
