Men’s and Women’s Tennis fall to Eastern Kentucky, Shorter

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Birmingham-Southern men’s and women’s tennis teams both dropped two matches this weekend, losing to Eastern Kentucky, Friday, at home, and Shorter College, Saturday, on the road.

The women lost to EKU, 6-1, and Shorter, 8-1, while the men lost to EKU, 7-0, and Shorter, 8-1. The BSC women are now 2-3 on the season, while the men are 3-4.

The women picked up one point against EKU by winning the doubles point as junior Angee Stevens and senior Rachal Jones won at the two spot, 8-5, and sophomore Katherine Jackson and freshman Raeann Lamere won at the three spot by default. Against Shorter, the Panther women’s lone point came at the number six singles spot, where Jones won 7-5, 7-5.

For the men, EKU swept BSC, but the Panthers won a point against Shorter at the six singles spot where senior J.C. Freeman won 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

Both teams are at home next weekend, taking on Covenant College at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 6. The men will also take on Huntingdon College later that day at 3 p.m. at the BSC Tennis Complex.
