Men's and Women's Tennis both defeat Southwestern, Oglethorpe

The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's tennis teams both picked up two wins today, defeating SCAC rivals Southwestern University and Oglethorpe University at home on day one of the BSC Invitational.

The men, who now stand at 10-8 overall and 5-1 in the SCAC, defeated Southwestern by the score of 9-0 and Oglethorpe by the score of 5-4.

Senior Michael Locandro went 2-0 in singles today and leads the team with a season record of 9-2. Freshman Sawyer Voges also went 2-0 today to move to 6-4 overall, as did sophomore Hanlon Walsh to move to 8-8. In doubles play, Locandro and junior Will Boucek were 2-0 today to move to 5-1 on the season, and senior J.C. Freeman and sophomore John Zukley also won both matches today to move to 6-2.

On the women's side, the Panthers defeated Southwestern, 7-2, and Oglethorpe, 7-1, evening their overall record at 7-7 on the season and moving to 4-1 in the conference.

Freshman Raeann Lamere went 2-0 in singles today to move to 10-4 overall, as did senior Rachal Jones, putting her at 10-3 on the season. Freshman Payton Gartman was also 2-0 to move to 3-2 overall. Junior Brittany Cooper and freshman Kristen Crifasi were 2-0 in doubles action to move to 5-9 on the season, Jones and junior Angee Stevens moved to 8-6 overall with two wins today, and Gartman and Lamere teamed up to win both of their matches today and move to 5-4 overall.

The teams are back in action on Sunday, taking on Millsaps at 11:30 a.m. at the BSC Tennis Complex.
