Women's Tennis drops close match to Spring Hill in season opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team opened the 2012 season on Sunday against Spring Hill and lost a hard-fought match by the score of 5-4.

BSC won at number two doubles, with junior Raeann Lamere and freshman Terria Punturo winning 8-4. Lamere also won at the second singles position, 6-0, 7-5, as did junior Hilary Brooks at five singles (6-3, 6-4) and junior Payton Gartman at six singles (6-1, 6-1).

The Panthers are back in action at home on March 3 and 4, taking on Southwestern University at 9 a.m. on March 3 and Millsaps College at 10 a.m. on March 4 at the BSC Tennis Complex.
